September 14, 1968–Detroit Tigers pitcher Denny McLain registers his 31st win as the Tigers defeat the Oakland Athletics 5-4 at Tiger Stadium. This win makes McLain the last pitcher in M.L.B. history to win 30 or more games in a single season since Dizzy Dean in 1934. He finished the season with a 31-6 W-L record, a 1.96 E.R.A. and 280 strikeouts in 41 appearances. McLain finished his historic 1968 season by winning his first A.L. Cy Young award, first A.L. M.V.P. award and first M.L.B. World Series. McLain also led the M.L.B. in win percentage (.838), innings pitched (336), complete games (28), games started (41), and batters faced (1288). McLain started two games in the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals, losing both Game 1 and Game 4 to Cardinals pitcher Bob Gibson. However, McLain pitched a complete game win in Game 6, securing the World Series for the Tigers.

September 9, 1991–-Washington Redskins kicker Chip Lohmiller becomes the first kicker in N.F.L. history to kick two 50+ yard field goals in the same quarter. Lohmiller set this kicking record by converting a 53-yard and 52-yard field goal during the 2nd quarter of a Monday Night Football Redskins’ 33-31 Week 2 win over the Dallas Cowboys at Texas Stadium in Irving, TX during the 1991 N.F.L. season. Lohmiller also converted a 45-yard and 46-yard field goal during the 3rd and 4th quarters, respectively.
